Quayleââ¬â¢s Views on Why Illegitimacy Rates are Rising :: Speaker Evaluation Essays
Quayleââ¬â¢s Views on Why Illegitimacy Rates are Rising Oneââ¬â¢s views of the problems in society and how to fix them can be quite hard to press upon the ears of the public without experience in how to use argumentation affectively. Dan Quayle, in his speech ââ¬Å"Restoring Basic Values: Strengthening The Family,â⬠tries to convey a point which is the more we stray from family values the worse off things are going to become in our society. Quayle gave his conservative speech while he was serving his last year as the U.S. Vice-President. Quayle explains that the lack of family values and other good virtues in our society are some of the problems that lead up to the 1992 LA riots. Quayle Believes that the main problem is not that everyone is poor but that there is ââ¬Å"a poverty of valuesâ⬠in our society witch allows the would have been outcasts of the early years to now become the norm in terms of values. He uses ethos to display his credibility as someone that should be listened to, logos to back what he is saying w ith statistics and facts, and pathos to connect with the audience on another level other than a professional one. Quayle sets the tone by stating his authority as the vice president, which makes his argument hold more weight to his audience. He starts his speech off talking about his weeklong trip to Japan where he commemorated the 20th anniversary of the reversion of Okinawa to Japan, which was done by the U.S. This is one of the duties that the vice president carries out, so without stating that he was Vice President he still got the point across that he had the authority to make his claim. It is also evident that he has experience since it is his last year serving as the vice-president. In this Dan Quayle uses his ethical appeal as a person with experience in a high position in the political arena to gain credibility. He also uses ethical appeals after stating some statistics about black illegitimacy to touch basis with his audience. This happens when he talks about himself being a baby Boomer, since he was born in 1947. Quayle explains the notorious legacy of the ââ¬Å"Boomerâ⬠generation to say, ââ¬Å"I have been there and experienced what you are experiencing, â⬠so I understand.

How does Jane Austen portray pride in the novel ‘Pride and Prejudice’?
For my English coursework I have decided to consider the question: How has Jane Austen portray pride in the novel Pride and Prejudice? This question asks about mostly characters and their self-respect, dignity and pride there are many different meanings of pride here are a few: 1. Inordinate self-esteem, unreasonable conceit of one's own superiority. 2. Insolence, arrogance. 3. Sense of dignity, self-respect and proper self-esteem. 4. Generous elation or satisfaction arising out of some accomplishment, possession or relationship. 5. A source of such elation. 6. The acme, the highest point, the best condition. I will approach this question by going through, firstly the characters with types of positive and negative pride and then the characters with comic and changing pride. Pride can be classed as a positive concept. A positive form of pride in Jane Austen's novel would, I think be Lizzy. Lizzy is very proud of her family despite how sometimes they might embarrass her. For example, the way Lydia and Catherine act when there out at dinner. ââ¬Å"Catherine and Lydia had been fortunate enough to never be without partners, which was all they had yet learned to care for at a ballâ⬠. This would suggest how flirtatious Lydia and Catherine are. Another quotation to suggest this would be: ââ¬Å"I am astonished that you should be so ready to think your own children are sillyâ⬠. This is written in Caroline Bingley's letter to Mr Bennet. A second example of this is the way Mrs Bennet talks to Mr Darcy, because of holding a grudge against him when he first arrived at Longbourn (Darcy would dance with no-one but the Bingley sisters, either because the weren't pretty enough or of a lower class). ââ¬Å"You know how I detested it, unless I am particularly acquainted with my partnerâ⬠My last example would be when Lydia ran off with Wickham. This is the stage in the story where the Bennets have realised what Wickham's really like and about his sinister character. Lizzy also never looks down on anyone and I think she may believe in equality. Being headstrong and sometimes quite arrogant may let Lizzy down a little, but Lizzy speaks her mind and the way she feels when confronted or confronting showing her pride in her family and friends. For example when Collins proposed to Lizzy, she would none of it and turned him down three times. When telling her that no one else would take pleasure in engaging with her she stood strong and said she had never been treated in such an abominable, rude and UN-gentlemen-like manor. An example of Lizzy speaking her mind, When she turned Collins proposal down the first time, as it was fashionable to turn the first proposal down, but the second or third should've been accepted. This displayed how much Lizzy detests Collins. I think Liz zy was quite prejudice though. At the beginning of the novel she judges Darcy on his pride because Wickham tells her of how sinister Darcy is to try and win Lizzy's love. ââ¬Ë If late Mr Darcy had liked me less, His son might have borne me with better; but his fathers uncommon attachment to me irritated him early in lifeâ⬠. This is one of Wickhams lies that Lizzy sadly fell for. Wickham is trying to say that Darcys' father paid more attention to him than Darcy. Darcy then got jealous and started disliking Wickham. Lizzy's empathetic reply to this was: ââ¬Å"I had not thought Mr Darcy so bad as thisâ⬠. As Lizzy falls gullibly she expresses her feelings for Wickham. While Wickham smugly smiles at his attempt to poison Lizzy. When Lizzy realises she has judged wrong, she fiercely chastises herself for misjudging Darcy. ââ¬Å"Infact my feelings are quite the oppositeâ⬠This is what Lizzy says on Darcy's second proposal. Jane Bennet portrays positive pride in the way she looks e.g. the posture and the structure in the way she sits, stands and walks. She also shows great pride in her mother and some in the rest of her family. Jane's pride in the way she looks is strongly criticised when Mr Bingley disengages from her. This would make Jane feel very degraded. Jane is very sad about Mr Bingley leaving her, when she hears news of his return her face lights up and her pride is given back to her. This is because she knows he is coming back to see her. Mr Bennet has a lot of pride in Lizzy as he thinks she is the brightest one of his daughters. He stands by Lizzy in all she does. ââ¬Å"We all know him to be a proud, unpleasant sort of man, but this would be nothing if you really liked himâ⬠. This is what Mr Bennet has learned that Lizzy has accepted Darcys' second proposal. Mr Darcy was determined to not make himself look daft/pathetic again he makes sure that Lizzy is not leading him on before he properly proposes: ââ¬Å"I could not have addressed you in any possible way that Would induce you to accept me. So tell me if your feelings Are as they were beforeâ⬠. Georgina on the other hand is very proud of her brother and the way she has been brought up. She obviously shows pride in her family and in all she does. I think Georgina looks up to her brother (Darcy) and respects him greatly in all he does. The negative version of pride appears in this novel quite often. A lot of it appears in conversations between the Bingley sisters. The Bingley sisters are some of the most prejudice people throughout this book. They think they are a step above the rest and only have friends with ââ¬Ëmoney'. They think that all women should be elegant females and learn to play at least one instrument, sew and act lady like (basically to be accomplished). ââ¬Å"Women are inclined to learn to play at least one instrument fluentlyâ⬠It shows us this when Lizzy dashes half way across the countryside by foot to visit her sick sister. The greeting she gets is an unimpressed one and they are dicusted in her unladylike exertion. ââ¬Å"Yes and her petticoat; I hope you saw her petticoat, six inches deep in mud, and the gown which had been let down to hide it, not doing its officeâ⬠. The Bingley sisters are proud in every thing they do and given chance to talk about themselves would claim to be the best (or ââ¬Ëone of'). Their clothes they wear in the video portray their class in society and they are very arrogant, self-worrying people. Lady Catherine de Burgh is also another example of being very prejudiced or if not, the most prejudiced in the book. There isn't a lot of Lady Catherine in the story until the end, but all the way throughout there are refers to her and her strong influences she has on people i.e. Mr Collins. ââ¬Å"Lady Catherine said I should marry as I am a clergymanâ⬠Lady Catherine has a lot of pride, mostly in herself but some in her daughter. Lady Catherine is also extremely arrogant and does not like things when they don't go her way. E.g. when Lady Catherine heard news of Darcy wanting to propose to Lizzy again, she storms up to Longbourn by horse and carriage to declare that Lizzy refuses his offer as Darcy is engaged to be with Lady Catherine's daughter. Lizzy standing up for her rights bites back at Lady Catherine and makes no such promise to say no to Darcy. She ends up doing quite the opposite and accepting his offer. In the beginning of the novel Darcy is a very proud, arrogant and upper, top class person (so he seems to think). An early start became a bad start when he went to the first dinner and saw Lizzy. Darcy portray his arrogance by dancing with Mrs Hurst and Miss Bingley. Only Mr Bingley saw Darcy and tried to make him dance with Lizzy, but he said: ââ¬Å"She is tolerable but not handsome enough to tempt meâ⬠. Comic Pride is a rare pride in this novel and can be seen in at least two of the characters. The first Character it occurs in is Mr Collins he has so much self-love he could make Lady Catherine vomit! Mr Collins shows his smugness in almost everything he does. When asking for Lizzy's hand in marriage, thinking that she couldn't turn him down financially or because its not something an 18th century woman would do. This refers to meaning 5 on the first page. Mr Collins also had the audacity to say that Lizzy would be daft to say no, as no one else would want to marry her because of her finances. ââ¬Å"You should take it to farther consideration that inspite of your manifold attractions, it is by no means certain that another offer of marriage may never be made of youâ⬠. Collins is funny in the way he moves and acts I would describe him as behind the time (old fashioned). He shows huge respect for Lady Catherine by doing everything she tells him to do. E.g. She said he should get a wife and settle down. So he obeyed her and went to ask for Lizzys hand in marriage. The other example of comic pride would be Mrs Bennet. She always claims she's right and I think she's two faced. One minute she will say that Mr Bingley is an arrogant, self-centred person for dumping Jane, and when news travels he's coming to visit shes really nice to him. E.g. She creeps round him asking how his journey was and how was he. She claims she's always right by, for example when Lydia ran off she said she would never come back she's been kidnapped. When she heard Lydia was coming back married she said she always knew she'd come back. Both these characters are humorous in the novel and the video, but do get quite annoying. Changing Pride also happened only once or twice in this novel. The first person it happens to is Lizzy as her pride changed when she realised she'd thought wrong of Darcy. At first she saw him as rude and arrogant but by the end she saw that she really loved him. She learned to see through all his arrogance and self-centredness and saw the polite and pleasant Darcy. This changed her views on Darcy and gave her reason to accept his proposal second time round. Darcy the mostly changed character. He has fallen for Lizzy and realises he wants to spend the rest of his life with her. At the start or the book Darcy could've been described as arrogant, self-centred/confident man I think Lizzy's influences changed Darcy's pride and he started looking at people for what they were and not what they looked like. She did this by making him realise what's she was like deep down and not what she looked like on the outside or of her family name. The Pride in this novel is what I think keeps the story going, it makes it a lot more exciting to read. All four of these prides mixed in to one and written in the most interesting ways stops you from wanting to put this book down.

With the knowledge of physical and the personal space, then someone would be able to easily understand the activities that happen around him or her. In the same manner, if we have ever gone to a certain place and then asked to give a description of going to the same place, we shall be able, through our minds to travel through the space and even see the exact location which we are asked because of space interaction. One of the greatest technologies that has given scientists milestones and a better understanding of how our brains travel through space is the immersive virtual environment. Using specialized helmets, all kinds of environment can now be produced in the laboratory be it buildings, forests, jungle and space using immersive virtual environment. The immerse virtual environment will show that brains has neurons that give humans the capability to encode and decode some of the information stored in the brain and certain parts of the brain are able to access the same information when a reference needs to be made on particular environments that are accessed. To further the space studies, the scientists established that that some people are better way finders than others. The ability to be a good way finder is determined by how good one is able to imagine how different world looks from various perspectives or viewpoints. Such kind of an ability is greatly dependent on the brain area referred to as the hippocampus. Although it was founded and first gained a foothold in India, Buddhism today is usually more associated with East Asian countries such as Korea and Japan. Advantages and Disadvantages of Fast Food - 2221 Words
Advantages and Disadvantages of Fast Foods Food that we eat today has changed more in the past 30 years, than in the past 3,000 years. What is even more astonishing is that these changes have occurred without the public even knowing it or having the chance to debate it. How has this happened? We are now a culture that is very distant from where our food comes from. We are alienated from our food industry. We donââ¬â¢t see how the food is made or what chemicals, food coloring or fillers are added to them and this can be very dangerous for us. Fast food companies are especially guilty of wanting to hide information of how their food was made. My principal objective and lifeââ¬â¢s ambition had always been to work in an atmosphere that not only demanded the utmost of my potentiality but also challenged my abilities.à It is commonplace for soldiers to be accoutered with fully loaded weapons and the requisite mental preparedness to emerge victorious in battle. In a similar manner, I have always possessed enormous experience, organizational abilities and psychological preparedness in meeting the demands of the contemporary work environment. We will write a custom essay sample on Admission to MBA Course or any similar topic only for you Order Now I have experience of working in physical care and wellness and I completed an undergraduate course in Kinesiology and Nutrition. Prior to the year 2000 I worked for the United States Army as a Production Controller. My tenure with the US Army helped me to achieve organizing capabilities and expertise in management and supervision. During the years from 2000 to 2003, I was associated with the Womenââ¬â¢s Hospital of Texas as an administrative assistant, where I gained expertise in the allotment of duties to office personnel, preparation of medical charts, physicianââ¬â¢s reports and the radiology departmentââ¬â¢s clinical reports. These reports had to be prepared and submitted to the physicians of the hospital on a daily basis. I also assisted the radiologists, physicians, patients and their families and extended my moral support to patients and their near relatives, in order to alleviate their suffering. In this task, I invariably offered my best efforts and always lent a helping hand in a friendly manner. I developed a number of supervisory skills, like keeping track of office supplies and ensuring that stocks were always available. I maintained the secrecy of patientsââ¬â¢ records filed with the hospital. My extensive experience helped me to assume positions involving multifaceted responsibilities. Consequently, I gained considerable organizing skill and the competence to be a part of large-scale facility projects. Thereafter there was no turning back. I became very proficient in budgeting, scheduling of events and the promotion of customer relations. All these activities enabled me to become very good at building teams and to assume the position of a role model for others. Subsequently, I acquired program management skills and was extremely successful in providing service in the corporate environment. In addition, I possessed adequate knowledge to recruit, train and encourage professional staff development. I also worked in group facilitation, and in this particular field I emerged as an undisputed leader. My communication skills were proved on many an occasion to be outstanding. I am extremely proficient with the Microsoft Office applications Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Publisher and software applications like FitLinxx, MediTech and Eclipse. Whilst working as a Product Sales Developer in TechnoGym USA, Seattle, WA and I developed programming around Easy Line circuit equipment and provided essential product information to the sales personnel. This entailed the design of presentations, making conference calls and preparing product literature to improve sales and the preparation, execution and revision of project plans. I have faced a number of challenges in life. One of them relates to my tenure in the military. I joined up at the age of nineteen and to put it frankly I was all at sea. We had to undergo physical exercises six days a week for an hour at a stretch. It was not much different from physical torture. Then we were made to march for twelve miles with a rifle and a forty pound knapsack. Afterwards we had to stand at attention, without making even the slightest of movement. In addition, we had to memorize and answer a number of questions while waiting in line for food. Emotionally our psyche took a tremendous beating, as we were not allowed to see our family members or friends till a month had elapsed, which forced us to develop new friends. This experience proved to be a baptism by fire and I emerged much stronger and better equipped to face the worst in life. I developed self reliance, team spirit and since the targets were never ending it became second nature to strive for attaining goals. This served to enhance my ambition and fighting spirit enormously. I have received several citations and certificates for the exemplary work performed by me. I am a trained instructor in Yoga, Spin, Pilates and CPR. My lifeââ¬â¢s ambition is to start a Health and Fitness enterprise. To this end I would like to commence studios that take care of fitness and provide personalized training. My observation has been that a significant number of institutions that offer fitness services do not cater to individual needs. My enterprise will take a very close look at the nutritional value of the food being consumed by my clientele. There will be stores for such purchases and these stores will offer customized shopping services. I will implement meal plans that will take into account the specific requirements of my customers. My principal objectives are to develop skills related to the management of projects, develop self ââ¬â sufficiency and conduct a successful business. Moreover, I intend to travel extensively for both business and pleasure, because travel expands the mind. These are my aspirations and a few of my extensive accomplishments. The next logical step is to obtain suitable formal education in management. à This will not only improve my career prospects but also help me to perform at my optimum level. Thus, I made a survey of the different colleges offering the MBA program and concluded that the Marylhurst Universityââ¬â¢s MBA program was best suited to my unique needs. This program produces professionals with strong interpersonal, analytical and communication skills with a holistic view of the business process from the shop floor to the retail outlet. The faculty members are working professionals, who keenly and unstintingly, impart their professional experience to the students, which renders this course very valuable. The cardinal objectives of this program are to enable the student to possess the latest knowledge in such diverse fields as accounting, finance, law, etc; to become extremely proficient in analyzing national and international business environments; to comprehend the latest business concepts and emerging trends in management and information technology and discover oneââ¬â¢s professional competencies in order to enhance oneââ¬â¢s career prospects. Obviously, such a combination of goals and competencies is unique in the MBA programs available in this country and management graduates from this university perform exceptionally well in the industry. Innovativeness and Performance The Mediating Role of Organisational T
Question: Describe about the Innovativeness and Performance for The Mediating Role of Organisational Trust? Answer: Training and development plays a vital role in employees career growth and largely for the growth of the organization as a whole. The training of the employees is simply the process of acquiring the right amount of skills and knowledge of the work and workplace they work in with specific goals. For example, operating a machine, handling the customers query or understanding a process in a workplace. The career growth of the employees is possible through training, but their development program ensures more opportunities and overall growth of the employees and organization. As development program emphasize on broader skills, which are applied on a wide range of situations. This includes team leading skills, decision-making skills, creative thinking among employees, improvement in the performance, increased productivity and managing the people and pressure (Ahteela, Blomqvist, Puumalainen Jantunen, 2010). This leads to the development of organization automatically as the management deve lopment encourages a growth of all individuals and their career development as mentioned in the philosophy of Human Resource Management. These will help in improving the knowledge and skills that can be applied at workplace, results in job satisfaction and increase motivation, promote the communication and network in problem solving and support activities through various network channels among departments (Amah Ahiauzu, 2013). Employee development programs benefit both the company as well as the employees. The performance of the employees who have their own vision, mission and objectives of performing better in the organization and are backed by training and development will help the organization to succeed and will enjoy working more for goals (Bloom Van Reenen, 2010). There is a difference in approach for training and development programs that the focus of training is for current performance of the employee but through development it ensures future performance, work experience in training is lower than what it is in development, training goals for employees is to prepare them for current job skills whereas, development is for higher goals and changes, in the training all employees are required to be present but in the development participation is voluntary. Thus, there are various development programs which employees must go through for right training and development (Boselie, 2010). Encouraging employees to participate in career development seminars, conferences in line to their skills set and position. HR department must provide manuals, checklists, guidelines, policies of the organization for employees as to let them know what they are supposed to do in an organization. While being on the job the employee learns the new thing every day where it will help them to develop more skills. Team managers must provide responsibilities to its employees to ensure involvement of the employee in the task and its ability to handle multi-tasking. The employee must get ample opportunities for learning by performing tasks which are new for them and guide them for proceeding. An appraisal program for the good performance also helps the employees in development, this is based on 360-degree appraisal where managers, supervisors evaluate the teams performance and suggest them the changes or provide feedbacks necessary (Korpelainen Kira, 2010). All these will help the employees to know to know the shortcoming evaluate its own performance and work for betterment. In this rapidly changing world, one needs to be competitive, be it organization or employee. Employees development programs help them giving competitive edge in the job market and the same applies for the organization who trains and develop its employees can compete with other organizations within the same industry this is the fundamental duty of the managers to develop its employees and encourage them to achieve their career goals as well as pursue the learning needs and achievements in the organization (Kuvaas Dysvik, 2010). The organization development focused on employee development leads to the growth opportunity for both organization and employee. The essential element of Human Resource Strategy is to setup programs for employee development in alignment with the companys development program so as to ensure overall growth of the organization. The organizational strategy goals are basically set by the executives who set specific tasks and measurable goals for its managers and su pervisors at the functional level which are to be met by all the managers (Lawler Boudreau, 2012). It is a vital role for the HR of the organization to link their strategy with the organizational strategy which will ensure employee development and promote organizational development. There is a positive relationship between the organization development and the employee development. There must be the assessment for the organizations core competencies which include what skills are actually required for the development of the organization, and then only the organization's leaders can develop the goals as a whole (Mathis Jackson, 2011). There should also be the evaluation for the skills that are lacking in the organization. After finding the key skills requirement, for example, the organization is lacking in team dynamics, then there must be the implementation of team building the program for the employees. If managers are lacking in strong leadership, the goal of the organization shou ld be to implement leadership development training for its managers. All these development activities will ensure a positive return on investment. And return on investment is a primary goal for the organization strategy in achieving its goal (Noe, 2010). For any organization, it will be a higher loss in its turnover in case there is no retention of highly skilled employees in the organization. A highly skilled and developed workforce of the organization will contribute to overall development and effectiveness of the organization to compete with the other organization of the same industry. It is easy for the organization to develop itself if its employees maintain the skills necessary for the organization . Human Resource Management plays a key role in the employee development for any organization. HR professionals play an essential role in creating an environment for learning in the organization. It helps to create a work culture of where all the employees of the organization take part in the training and development program with seriousness. Human Resource Management is the face of any organization, as their job is not just to interact with the executives, seniors or managers but with each and every employee of the organization. HR professionals motivate its employees to participate carefully in all training programs; they ensure that every employee is comfortable with all the working conditions of the organization, make employees focus on development programs, make working conditions and environment suitable for its employees and also ensure superior or manager and employee relation positive which will help the employee in career development (Sheehan, Fenwick Dowling, 2010). Personal Career Development: I am currently working as a management trainee in the organization and after five years I see myself as the senior executive for handling customer query in the organization. The working condition of my organization has helped me in learning a lot. There is a learning environment, activities, training provided to management trainees to build their skills and perform well in the organization. The best performers get appreciated with many appraisal programs, trophies, certificates from eminent guests, and even trips to work abroad. All this motivates me in performing at a higher level so that I can avail all these appraisals for myself and get promotions as early as possible. The organization has helped me grow not only in work aspects but also as a human being with professional thinking and working ethically. The development seminars, trainings, conferences has inculcated many skills which will help me in my future career development and even in case in future I want to go for big oppo rtunities all these programs have helped me in differentiating myself in the crowd and has inculcated working attitude in me.
